Wilt and colleagues pooled 18 randomised controlled trials covering 1,562 men for the Cochrane Library and found men taking a standardised pygeum bark extract were more than twice as likely to report an improvement in overall symptoms than men on placebo, a relative risk of 2.1. The measured outcomes moved with them: night-time urination down 19 percent, residual urine volume down 24 percent, and peak urine flow up 23 percent, with adverse effects mild and no more common than on placebo.
